Waiting on a prince. 8/22/08

There comes a certain age when you realize the reality of your situation. Fairy tales don't exist anymore. But did they ever?
The tales of romance long ago were those of forced marriages. Sometimes a couple would get lucky and fall in love with each other after their lives had been arranged. Sometimes a maiden would run off with a man under her status; the stature of her family would be ruined, but off somewhere in hiding would lay her and her prince charming. If she ever came back, she would be in much trouble, but it was far from her mind as she sunbathed in a wood, placing tender kisses on her lover's cheek.
Fortunately, in most countries arranged marriages are no more, but unfortunately that means most have to make a mad dash to find a love.

Wisdom and growth. 4/12/08

Every once in a while I am incredibly inspired by the strength that I have. Usually I traipse around scared of this and that, and too nervous to talk to people. Today I stumbled upon some inner strength and I cannot describe how good that feels.
Right now I feel like I can get through any struggle, and I am so excited for the "start" of my life to come. In the summer of 2009, my whole world will change. I will be living in another country, about to attend university.
It can't come fast enough for me.

Manifestations of love. 2/02/08

Love's a funny thing. There's romantic love, parent-child love, sibling love, friendship love, etc. and so forth. I for one, only experience two of these: parent-child love and friendship love.
I've never been truly in love with a man, or boy for that matter. Sure, I've had a few puppy love things here and there, but in my book, that doesn't really count. It doesn't last.

The thing that makes love funny is how it manifests itself exactly. Not only is it different for each form of love, but each form has its own distinct characteristics.
With romantic love, the mind is filled with visions of lipstick stuck on the rim of empty champagne glasses, rumpled linen sheets, rose pedals, and lovers clinging to one another. It makes us sigh, blush, smile, and cry. What other feeling but love can evoke such a wide variety of emotions? Surely none other.
Friendship love can crash upon us in a matter of seconds. You've felt it before; the moment in which you feel the peak of happiness. You think, "how could this moment get any better?" Perhaps it's in the middle of a belly laugh, or in a deep conversation revealing how much you really trust one another.
